Attractiveness

For some reason today I got to thinking about attractiveness. It started out as a quick fb status, but then when it reached about paragraph length I decided that might not be the best idea and decided to expand my thoughts a bit.

I was thinking about what makes someone attractive to another person? I'm talking about physical attraction only here. Is attractiveness relative? Relative as in, are people considered beautiful because there is a standard of ugliness to be based on? Or in other words, is Kate Beckinsale really pretty because there is someone like Drew Barrymore to compare her too?

Babe.

Or is attractiveness scientific? Is there a formula or genetic makeup that can determines ones level of physical attractiveness?

Science agrees: not a babe.

I think it's probably a combination of the two. I mean obviously there's relativity in attractiveness, girls that I find attractive maybe are not to some other guys. But usually you find that two attractive people making a baby usually means an attractive offspring. And vice versa. Which I find kind of depressing. Poor ugly babies had no chance.

But then I got to thinking what if it was purely scientific? What if there was a concrete number system to gauge attractiveness? What if we were like pokemon and there was a way to rate our looks? That would blow my mind. Things I would want to see if this were true:
1. My rating. Of course. and so would you.
2. To see the top and the bottom of the list of people I know.
3. What the baby of the highest rated person and lowest rated person would look like.

Okay thats enough random thoughts for the day. To be honest this all started because I wanted to tell people how ridiculously hot I thought Kate Beckinsale was and how ugly I thought Drew Barrymore was. Until next time.
