When the clock hit 12am on January 1st, I was taking a piss at CQ. Somewhere in there is a metaphor for the year and decade that just passed. Ten years ago I woke up as a 12 year old relieved that the world passed safely through Y2k and that I could continue playing starcraft, this morning I awoke as a 22 year old relieved that I somehow made it to my bed without vomiting somewhere.
It's been an...interesting decade to say the least. Personally speaking of course. I think people can agree that historically the 00's were pretty crappy. What with 9/11, the senseless wars, Katrina, the snuggie and the Steelers winning 2 super bowls. I guess if I had to summarize my decade into one short sentence it would be...It could have been better, but the peaks were worth the valleys. Which is an absolutely terrible way to summarize ten years of life but I can't think of anything better. I would make a list of highlights and lowlights, but I don't have the energy to think that hard. I guess that says something in itself. Anyway these past ten years haven't been without their share of regrets, but unless you're the google guys or Tiger Woods up until about a month ago who can't say that. I'm beyond thankful for the good memories this decade has brought and more importantly with the people I made them with.
Looking ahead into 2010 and beyond is pretty daunting. There is still a very long road ahead of me to where I want to be in life. I pray that I stay on it though and watch out for any distractions. I know new years resolutions are silly in nature and I just have one this year. Learn from, and do not repeat, past mistakes. If I can do that I think I'll be okay.
I hope everyone has the year they are hoping for and to the people that matter I hope to see you numerous times through it.
